Galina L. Klimchitskaya occupies the positions of Leading Researcher at the Department of Astrophysics, Central Astronomical Observatory at Pulkovo of the Russian Academy of Sciences (www.gao.spb.ru) and Professor of the Department of Quantum Electronics at the Institute of Physics, Nanotechnology and Telecommunications, Saint Petersburg State Polytechnical University (www.eng.spbstu.ru). She also worked as a Visiting Professor at many Universities in different countries including Leipzig University (Germany), Harvard University, University of California and Purdue University (USA), University of Napoli (Italy), University of Helsinki (Finland), Federal University of Paraiba and Brazilian Center for Physical Research (Brazil) and others.

The main directions of her work are the Casimir effect and its applications to graphene and other systems, constraints on the corrections to Newtonian gravity and light hypothetical particles, relativistic effects in atomic spectra, plasma diagnostics, theory of point defects in solids, and theory of atomic force microscopy. Although the group is theoretical, special attention is paid to close collaboration with experimentalists. On the above subjects, G. L. Klimchitskaya has published 4 monographs and more than 230 papers. She has also took part as an invited speaker in more than 50 scientific Conferences.

At the present time G. L. Klimchitskaya and other members of her group develope quantum-field theoretical description of the reflectivity properties of graphene, calculate the Casimir force between different graphene systems, obtain more strong constraints on an axion as a possible constituent of dark matter, investigate thermodynamical aspects of the Casimir force between magnetic materials, elaborate new experimental schemes allowing to obtain stronger constraints on the Yukawa-type corrections to Newtonian gravity, and work on possible resolution of the puzzle of thermal Casimir force.
